FaithWalk
WHAT IS FaithWalk? FaithWalk is our ministry for middle school youth and their parents.

Beginning in 6th grade, youth are invited to remember that they have been baptized and that through that baptism, God has signed and sealed to them promises that will never, ever be broken. Those promises include...
  1. Forgiveness--When we confess that we have not lived as God has created to live by loving God and loving others, God has promised to forgive us and give us a new start.
  2. We will never be abandoned--God has promised to us that we will NEVER, EVER be without the loving, grace-filled, and merciful presence of God, no matter what, even when it feels like we have been abandoned. This means that faith and our faith practices (worship, service, prayer, etc.) aren't just about "someday getting to heaven." Every moment of our lives are filled with God's presence.
  3. Our lives have purpose and meaning--Indeed, every human life is valuable and filled with purpose and meaning, simply because very human life has been created by God. For followers of Jesus, we also believe that such as we seek to live lives that "rhyme" with Christ's, we can discover that purpose and meaning in our daily lives, especially as we seek to serve God by serving other human beings.
  4. We belong--When we are baptized, we are baptized into a particular congregation. That is, "those people" become "my people." We are united by Christ through the Holy Spirit to all claim Jesus as Lord. But we experience that belonging most keenly in our local congregation.
  5. Death is not the final word for us--This works on two levels. First, even when it feels like something has "died" in our lives (a relationship; something at which we have failed; a humiliation; etc.), that will not be the final word in our lives. We are NOT our last, worst moment! Second, even in the face of our own literal deaths, God has promised there is more! It's not just that we believe that JESUS was raised from the dead. We also believe that God will someday raise US from the dead too!
And since one of those promises is "Our lives have purpose and meaning," we Lutherans also believe that in our baptisms, we are also "drafted" into being followers of our Lord Jesus Christ!

What does THAT mean?
Well, when most (but by no means ALL) of our FaithWalk participants were baptized as infants, their parents were asked to make the following promises in response to the great promises God makes to us:
          "As you bring your children to receive the gift of baptism, you are entrusted with responsibilities:
          to live with them among God's faithful people, to bring them to the word of God and the holy supper;
          to teach them the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments;
          to place in their hands the holy scriptures;
          and to nurture them in faith and prayer,
          so that your children may learn to trust God;
          to proclaim Christ through word and deed;
          to care for others and the world God made;
           and to work for justice and peace.
          Do you promise to help your children grow in the Christian faith and life?"

FaithWalk IS THE PROCESS BY WHICH THESE YOUNG PEOPLE BEGIN TO EXPERIENCE AND CLAIM FOR THEMSELVES THE FAITH AND ACCOMPANYING PRACTICES THAT GO WITH OUR FAITH, CULMINATING WITH AFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM (Confirmation).

    FAITH WALK BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS, DISCIPLINE POLICY, AND COVENANT
    FAITH WALK COVENANT
    Trinity Lutheran Church seeks to create a positive, loving, safe, respectful and fun environment for learning, building relationships, and growing in faith through the confirmation (FaithWalk) ministry.  Creating a clear discipline policy provides space for this positive environment to emerge, and when necessary, outlines a process for followup if expectations are not followed.  These expectations apply to students, parents, and volunteers involved in the program and helps to shape the kind of behavior that will be most beneficial to all.

    CORE EXPECTIONS
    • Showing respect and a cooperative attitude.
    • No teasing, rudeness, or talking over others (this includes talking while others are sharing during small group time, as well as talking while the presenter is speaking during large group gatherings.)
    • Following the direction of adult leaders.
    • Respecting the rights and property of others.
    • Abstaining from the use of inappropriate language.
    • Abstaining from the use of cell phones and music players unless specifically instructed.
    • Abstaining from the use of drugs and alcohol during any church sponsored activity.

    CONSEQUENCES
    If expectations are not met by the student the following consequences will follow-
    • 1st Offense:  Warning.
    • 2nd Offense:  The student will be asked to take the rest of the evening off and a parent/guardian will be notified for transportation.
    • If a student is asked to leave an event twice during the year, a parent/guardian will be invited to a conference with the student and a pastor.
    • Cell Phones and Electronics will be confiscated at the 1st Offense.  They will be returned at dismissal.

    Pastors and all volunteers will lead by example.  In speech, we will not gossip or swear.  In life, we will do what pleases God.  In love, we will care about others.  In faith, we will pray and trust God.  In purity, we will choose what is right.

    The discipline policy has been established to help keep a safe, respectful and positive environment for everyone.  Jesus said, “Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.” (Mark 11:25)  The spirit of this program is to address discipline concerns as they arise, but also to approach one another with a spirit of love and grace.

    I have read the above statements and will abide by the discipline policy.

Sermon-Worship Notes:

Picture
One of the things we know followers of Jesus do is WORSHIP. In order to help form that practice, we require a minimal number of Sermon-Worship Notes to be turned in. The Sermon-Worship Note helps our FaithWalkers interact with the worship service in such a way that they are having TO LISTEN and TO THINK about what is being said or sung.

NOTE: THIS NUMBER IS NOT TO BE MISUNDERSTOOD AS "ALL THAT WE REQUIRE FOR WORSHIP."

The required number of Sermon-Worship Notes are as follows:
  •  6th Graders (2020)--30 TOTAL or 10 per year.
  • 7th Graders (2020)--30 TOTAL or 10 per year.
  • 8th Graders or older (2020)--15 TOTAL or 5 per year.
These numbers represent FAR FEWER than HALF of our congregation's opportunities to worship over the course of a year.

The form below can be filled out and submitted from home as you worship with us via Livestream (Sundays at 9am) OR it can be accessed from your device when you worship with us in-person on Sunday mornings at 10:30am or Wednesday evenings at 6pm.

Faith5 Family Devos:

Picture
Each FaithWalker is REQUIRED to complete 20 Family Devos per year toward confirmation in the fall of their 9th Grade Year.

Really, the bottom line isn't filling in blanks, jumping through hoops, or fulfilling requirements. The bottom line is GROWING in faith and practice in such a way that families experience the peace, joy, love, patience, endurance, and MORE that comes with the grace-filled relationship we have with God in Jesus Christ. But that doesn't just "happen." So the CHALLENGE is to seek to install this Faith5 Family Devos at least TWICE a week!
